CHARLOTTE, N.C. — U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recently blamed book “banning” for the dramatic drop in students’ U.S. history and civics scores. The scores were released in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often referred to as the “nation’s report card.” The assessments showed that only 13% of students scored at or above a proficient level in U.S. history, while just 22% of those tested showed proficiency in civics, the first decline in that category since 1998.
For Judge Phil Ginn, president of Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES, www.staging.ses.edu), Cardona’s comments serve as a disingenuous deflection from the true culprit of these outcomes: the Biden administration’s crippling COVID-era school policies, along with a forced focus on the dangerous hyper-sexual indoctrination of even our youngest children.
“This past week Fox News reported something that anyone who has been observant at all already knew,” Ginn said. “The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) announced particularly dismal scores in history and civics with only 22% of our nation’s children testing at or above the proficient level. Can you just imagine all the gyrations going through the head of the Biden administration’s Education Secretary, Miquel Cardona as he tried to think of someone or something to blame for these abysmal results? ‘Well, let’s see. We can’t blame the President or any of the left-wing education administrators. We certainly can’t blame the radical agenda of the neo-Marxists and by no means can we blame the stupidity of shutting down the learning in our schools based on misguided information regarding COVID-19. So, what else could it be? Oh, I’ve got it – let’s blame the right-wing fascist book banners that won’t let pornography into our schools!’
“And there you have it, folks. The reason our children are doing so poorly, particularly in history and civics, is because kindergarten children are not allowed to have explicit sexually deviant books read to them just before nap time. Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? How could caring parents be so dumb as not to recognize this obvious problem of banning books in school?”
Ginn continued, “There is truth that matters, and Secretary Cardona is not getting within speaking distance of it. To paraphrase Senator John Kennedy (R-LA), ‘Every single day, reality calls and our out-of-control culture just hangs up!’ Contrary to what leftists claim there are no books being banned nor are they being burned in great bonfires as the radicals describe a ‘fascist’ juggernaut. What is happening is that right-thinking parents, educators and hopefully Christ-followers have figured out that this awful material does not need to be in the hands of our children nor those who would disseminate it to them. If I were to take some of this so-called literature into a community shopping center and begin to read it to children from kindergarten up to the age of 15 or 16, I would be put in jail and the key would be thrown away quicker than you could pass go in a game of Monopoly. So, why are we now as a culture trying to protect its availability in our educational system?
“The reality is that we have rating codes on movies so that parents can determine if the material is suitable for the age group of their children, and we have internet censors to protect them from harmful exposure to trash on the internet. Yet at the same time we are oblivious to the fact that this pornographic trash is available for them to check out in their school library without their parent’s knowledge. Not only that but in many schools, they are encouraged to interact with this hazardous waste in class and even have it read to them if they are not yet capable of reading. God help us!
“Here’s the bottom line — parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and anyone who cares about children, don’t allow the charlatans and deceivers to fool you with their charades. It is not equality they seek but the very souls of our children as their would-be spoils. It is time for those of us who love this nation and its children to shut out the distractions of this culture and get back to the business of protecting our precious little ones even if the enemy is our own government. For over 31 years, Southern Evangelical Seminary has been steadfast in the truth that matters. We not only teach this truth, but because it matters so much, we also strive to live it in our daily lives. That’s why we are calling on all God-fearing people in America to, as the Apostle Paul would say, ‘Wake up sleeper, rise from the dead and Christ will make day dawn on you.’ Isn’t it time that this nation wakes up to the truth that matters, the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Lord haste the day!”
