Ecclesiology and Eschatology Syllabus

DESCRIPTION

This course is a study of the doctrines of the Holy Spirit, the church, and last things, stressing the interconnections of these doctrines and their roles in bringing all God’s purposes to realization in human history.

OBJECTIVES

By the completion of this course, you should be able to . . . In general:

1. Discuss the major issues, arguments, and biblical texts important for the doctrines of the Holy Spirit, the Church, Last Things.
2. Articulate a growing appreciation of God’s ultimate purposes for humanity.
3.  Rejoice with intense gratitude to God for His saving work in history, resulting in greater love for God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
4.  Explain how you have grown in your ability to think critically about theological issues and to relate what you have learned in these areas of systematic theology studied to other areas of doctrine.

Specifically for Pneumatology:

1. Explain the necessity of the Spirit’s presence and work within creation.
2. Relate the Spirit’s works to each area of systematic theology.
3. Evaluate various views of miraculous gifts for biblical and logical soundness.

Specifically for Ecclesiology:

1. Explain how God’s salvation plan relates to Israel and the NT church in history.
2. Explain the relationship between the universal and local church.
3. Describe a biblical ministry of the church including both men and women.
4. Explain the differences among the views of the meaning of the ordinances.

Specifically for Eschatology:

1. Articulate clearly various views of the millennium and their relationship to the role of the church in history.
2. Explain Daniel’s 70 weeks and how various interpretations impact the views of the timing of the Rapture.
3.  Describe and analyze the central concerns of personal eschatology.
4.  Trace a consistent timeline of events from the futurist dispensational viewpoint.
